Elegant Black and Champagne Classic Wedding | Abbie + Brock
Abbie and Brock, a lovely college sweetheart love story, celebrated an elegant yet easygoing summer wedding day at Emerson Fields. This hometown couple holds a special place in our hearts! We, Amelia and Steve, have known Abbie since she was just a little girl growing up around our own daughters. It was such a thrill to have Abbie and Brock chose Emerson Fields for their wedding venue.
Abbie said, “Brock and I met through mutual friends when we were in middle school. We remained friends throughout high school, but we really hit it off the summer before my freshman year of college at Mizzou. We have been inseparable ever since! After dating for four years, Brock proposed to me in a beautiful spot at my grandparents' house. We had been talking about that day for years, so we were both beyond excited when it happened!”
These brainiacs spent their years at the University of Missouri together. Brock graduated from Mizzou with a major in Agriculture Systems Management and a minor in plant science. He currently farms with his family. Abbie is in her last year of pharmacy school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
These sweethearts planned such a gorgeous day for their elegant and easygoing outdoor wedding. They took the classic black and white color palette and added touches of a pale champagne color. This easygoing summer wedding took advantage of every space at Emerson Fields which is always our goal! We love having our couples utilize all of the space they are given for the weekend.
Abbie and her bridesmaids spent the morning in the bridal suite with mimosas and a delicious breakfast spread from Koch’s General Store. Abbie and her mother, Sarah, did a lot of the wedding planning together. It was so special to see them get ready together along with Abbie’s sister, Kate, and all the bridesmaids.
Abby Rose Photography, of St. Louis, styled all of Abbie’s special items into these flat-lay shots that really captured the style of the wedding. Isn’t it sweet that Abbie included a clipping of her grandparents’ wedding announcement?
After Abbie was all dolled up and ready, she had a first look with her dad and her little brother on the balcony right outside the bridal suite. Sarah, the mother of the bride, and the bridesmaids watched from inside. Some happy tears were shed and hugs were given all around!
We asked Abbie and Brock to tell us a favorite moment from their wedding day.
Abbie and Brock chose to have a first look next to the field on this beautiful summer day. We love that they got to spend their wedding day together! It was a special moment for them to breathe it all in and enjoy each other’s company. It also made their vows even more private as they read them to one another.
I think Brock and Abbie’s cheeks must have hurt by the end of this day because they had the biggest smiles all day long! This elegant and easygoing wedding with classic black and white, champagne, and tons of light florals looked gorgeous. The bridesmaids all wore matching Birdy Grey gowns in “satin taupe” for a sleek and soft look.
Abby Rose Photography looked like she had a great time grouping up this fun wedding party! They were ready for anything and looked stunning against the windows of Emerson Fields. These casual and effortless wedding party portraits were perfect with a laidback summer feel!
After the wedding party portraits, the group went back inside to cool off before the outdoor pavilion wedding ceremony. It was a beautiful, overcast summer day. Abbie and Brock had Tyena with D-Zines weddings coordinate the wedding day. This kept everyone on track for photos and Tyena’s team made sure the day went smoothly.
Here’s what Sarah, the mother of the bride, had to say!
Abbie and Brock had a beautiful outdoor ceremony under the covered pavilion, even when it started to sprinkle. The elegant day was minimalistic yet each decoration or special touch stood out against the white backdrop of the pavilion and the green summer grass.
Abbie was escorted down the aisle by her father. The couple chose a friend to officiate the wedding and had their pastor serve them communion for a special, personal touch. The wooden cross from Emerson Fields also served as their wedding altar. It was a simple yet beautiful way to honor their faith in God during the ceremony.
This short, sweet and memorable wedding ceremony was full of love. Family and friends were there to cheer on the newlyweds. Fun white confetti cannons celebrated Abbie and Brock as they made their way back down the aisle as Husband and Wife.
After the ceremony, guests were invited to a fun and delicious cocktail hour on the patio by the lake. Koch’s General Store created an epic fruit display with tons of fresh options. They also offered a popcorn and snack mix bar for something salty. These easy-serve appetizer options were displayed in pretty glass spheres rented from D-Zines Weddings. Case N’ Keg gave all the guests wonderful bar service with signature drinks like a margarita on rocks and a “bride on the beach.”
Abbie and Brock wanted to be able to participate in the cocktail hour which was so fun! It’s easier to make the rounds at cocktail hour, greeting your guests in a casual environment. This pre-party allows your guests to decompress and relax after the more formal ceremony. Out-of-town guests can reconnect and friends can socialize before being seated for the reception. Abbie and Brock had so much fun connecting with friends and family before the reception started.
The elegant reception space used round tables for the guests on the main floor and rectangular tables on the upper balcony. With a classic color palette like black and champagne, a wedding can look effortlessly elegant. Black napkins, gold chargers, custom signage that the bride’s sister made, a cupcake display, and beautiful floral centerpieces tied the classic wedding together. The whimsical and classy flower arrangements added a fresh and airy look to the all-white venue.
Here’s what Tyena from D-Zines Weddings had to say about the whimsical and classy floral arrangements.
“Abbie knew what she wanted. A whimsical, airy, and classy look. To create this we used YingYang pomps which are black and white and fit her color scheme perfectly. For whimsical florals, we chose the white cosmos, white designer Lisianthus, and black beauty Scabiosa. Our base flowers consisted of Queen Anne’s lace, quicksand, and polar star roses.
We were fortunate enough to outsource some flowers from one of our local growers, Amanda from Bloom Cut Flower Farm. It was great to see Abbie‘s face light up when she saw the table arrangements as just what she envisioned!”
Nathan Stufflebean of Top Sound Mobile led the introductions for the wedding party and the new Mr. and Mrs. Then speeches and toasts were given before the bride and groom cut the cake. Everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner spread by Noland’s Catering. Here’s what Sarah, the mother of the bride, said about Noland’s Catering.
“Lois and her crew provided a phenomenal rehearsal dinner [Friday] and reception dinner (pork, brisket, cheesy bacon mashed potatoes, smoked mac and cheese, seasoned green beans, salad, rolls, and drinks). I have had so many people mention how much they enjoyed the food and she had enough staff available for two serving lines!”
While guests finished up their meal and dessert, Abbie and Brock slipped out for some photos at dusk with their photographer. Coming out of the venue and spending a few minutes alone together helps you soak in that wedding euphoria. All that happiness and joy bubbling up throughout the day can spill out into some sweet portraits.
Abbie left us these kind words about her Emerson Fields wedding experience.
“Emerson Fields offers so much more than just a gorgeous wedding venue! Steve and Amelia have so much experience, and they know how to make your big day stress-free (not only for you as the bride and groom, but also for your families).
You can count on them to have everything set up exactly as you planned! They have so many helpful recommendations throughout the entire wedding planning process. We took a lot of their recommendations on vendors (wedding planner, DJ, caterer), and this really made a huge impact on having a smooth and stress-free wedding day!
I think you would be surprised when you discover how much Steve and Amelia do to make your day perfect!”
Hosting this black and champagne classic wedding was a joy for us as venue owners. Abbie and Brock chose an incredible group of vendors, many local to the Macon area, to create a beautiful day. You could sense all the love and joy throughout this day by the bright smiles, laughs, and hug shared. Abbie and Brock did an excellent job of making their wedding guests feel welcome and part of the celebration.
