Fairytale Bohemian Wedding in Powder Blue | Maddy + Adam from Liberty, MO

Maddy and Adam created a personalized fairytale summer wedding with powder blue accents and the most stunning bohemian wedding dress you have ever seen. These lovebirds were a joy to work with as they took their time planning out their dreamy fairytale wedding full of avant-garde touches. Carefree, joyous, stylish, personalized, and elegant all describe this picture-perfect summer wedding day at Emerson Fields. Even with a minor ice cream fiasco! (more on that later on) You won’t believe all the ways they put their personalization into their wedding weekend at Emerson Fields!

Let’s get to know these newlyweds!

Maddy and Adam went to high school together and started dating when they were 15 and 17! Maddy now manages an uber cute boutique in downtown Liberty, MO and Adam works in logistical sales. They got engaged after being together for 6 years. Maddy said, “It felt like a dream to think of spending forever with the boy I fell in love with all those years ago!”

They knew they wanted to have an Emerson Fields wedding after seeing the photos online. Maddy said “We fell in love with Emerson fields the first time we walked through but honestly we fell in love with Amelia! She was so welcoming and made us feel so comfortable!”

They set their date for a July wedding and booked Emerson Fields on the spot! This gave the couple about a year and a half to plan their perfect fairytale wedding day. Maddy planned every detail herself, which isn’t typical for most of our brides, and it turned out perfectly! She incorporated lots of personal touches, and unique vintage details, working to show off her and Adam’s style in every aspect of the wedding day.

I feel like our wedding was personalized in so many ways.. I put my heart into everything on our wedding day!

Now here’s where we get personalized. Maddy and Adam li.ter.al.ly. handmade their wedding day. From the welcome sign to the vintage mirrors, to the place settings, and even the head table décor, Maddy designed and built it all with Adam! She is a naturally creative person with an eye for design, so she enjoyed creating all of these unique decorations for her fairytale bohemian wedding day. Talk about dedication!!

This couple added lots of vintage touches to the décor and selected items that “told a story.” Every fairytale wedding needs a story, and this wedding day was the ultimate love story unfolding. The retro phone for guests to leave a voicemail on even gave a nod to this fairytale storytelling. Everywhere you looked, you got a sense of a real-life fairytale unfolding at Emerson Fields.

Maddy and her bridesmaids all got ready in matching white pajama sets in the bridal room at Emerson Fields. It was a fun, relaxing way to spend the morning together! Look at those cute matching blue smiley slippers from Maddy’s boutique! We love that Maddy incorporated all of these fun touches. While the ladies got hair and makeup done in the bridal suite, the guys arrived later in the morning to suit up.

Adam wore a totally unique groom’s suit from Jack Suits in powder blue plaid. This really set the mood for the day! Fun suit = ready for a fun day! If you’re looking for a way to include pops of color into your wedding day and photos, the groom’s suit is a perfect choice.

After getting ready with all her ladies, Maddy went out of the sliding glass doors of the venue to the patio. Her father was waiting for her by the lake, ready for a first look with his girl. It was emotional as Maddy’s dad shed a few tears over how breathtakingly beautiful his daughter looked.

Maddy wore a gorgeous bohemian wedding dress with lace detail and sleeves that were removable. Her cathedral veil was the perfect addition to create that fairytale look. If you’re looking for a modern boho Cinderella, here she is! Did we mention that she made her own bridal bouquet?

Maddy and Adam chose to have their fairytale summer wedding outside in the pavilion at Emerson Fields. They started the ceremony at 4:30 PM. The pavilion provided the right amount of shade on a July afternoon with a beautiful breeze coming through. After the wedding party made their way to the front, Maddy and her dad were ready. The pavilion doors opened and they walked down the aisle at exactly 55 seconds into the song “I Get to Love You” by Ruelle.

Adam and Maddy switched the traditional sides to stand on at the altar. This meant that Maddy stood on the right and Adam on the left. This way, both sets of parents could see their kid’s faces during the ceremony. Maddy’s parents didn’t have to stare at her back as she said her heartfelt vows to Adam, “I know you are that man I prayed for as a little girl.”

The wooden cross altar from Emerson Fields served as a simple and elegant backdrop for the couple as they said their personal vows to one another. Instead of a unity expression during the ceremony, the couple's parents came forward and prayed over Maddy and Adam. Another personal touch that made the day uniquely their own. Once this new husband and wife were announced, they walked back down the aisle to cheers and white confetti cannons going off! What a fairytale dream moment!

It seriously was such a dream! I have to say the most talked about thing from our wedding was our confetti cannons after we were announced husband and wife! Was such a fairytale magical moment and the photos and videos from that were INCREDIBLE!

This couple screams fun, free-spirited style! Here’s a great tip about this storybook ceremony. Maddy had a beautiful aesthetic in mind for her wedding day - all beige, gold, and powder blue details. Have you ever seen photos of a wedding ceremony and your eye is immediately drawn to the aunt who wore a hot pink pantsuit? Yeah, Maddy didn’t want that.

On their wedding website, Maddy added a link to a Pinterest board with inspiration about the wedding day. The couple added information on their website about their color palette and dress code for wedding guests to follow! This is actually genius-level thinking. Guests don’t have to stress about what to wear and your photos will have that timeless and cohesive look!

Kristen Pulido Photography did a fabulous job documenting this fairytale-inspired wedding with formal poses like this family portrait, and then tons of candid moments.

Since Maddy and Adam chose to see each other for the first time at the ceremony, they took wedding party photos while guests went on to cocktail hour in the main venue. Kristen Pulido made great use of the different backdrops at Emerson Fields. They took photos by the lake, in the wooded clearing, and in the fields. Having natural scenery for your wedding portraits adds freshness to your photo gallery and gorgeous pictures for years to come.

While the family members and wedding party had formal photos taken under the pavilion, the rest of the wedding guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the venue patio overlooking the lake. Guests enjoyed chips and queso and other appetizers from Noland’s Catering before being seated inside for the dinner and dancing reception.

We created a choreographed dance to welcome everyone to the dance floor which was so fun and really got so many people to join us!

Then the party got started! The couple’s entertaining dance got everyone excited for the evening! A delicious dinner was had and then special dances started. Guests loved dancing the night away. They also enjoyed some delicious treats brought in by the family. Including an ice cream bar!

Storytime: About three hours before the wedding ceremony started, we noticed there was an issue with the soft serve ice cream machine they brought into the venue. It was Maddy’s dream to create an ice cream recipe and have it served at the reception to guests. She eventually wants to open an ice cream shop one day!

While the guys were setting up the ice cream freezer, they realized it had a special plug that wasn’t going to fit the outlets in the venue. Maddy’s ice cream dreams were going to be over if there was no way to plug in the freezer! Cue Steve Holder (owner, operator, and builder of Emerson Fields)! Steve took the time to change out the outlet so the couple could still use their ice cream machine. They did and the guests loved it!

Talk about customer service. ;)

This boho fairytale head table deserved its own photo op! Maddy sourced all of the place settings, the glass candlesticks, the blue floral arrangements, and the white bud vases herself. She designed and built the backdrop for the head table out of wood and then ordered a personalized neon name sign from Amazon. Gorgeous!

Planning my wedding was so easy! I say that in the fact that Amelia was there every step of the way! We picked our date a year and a half in advance and Amelia still kept reaching out through the entire process!

That may seem pretty basic but when having so much time in between lots of people will forget so it was so special to create a relationship with Amelia through the entire process!

After dinner, the couple slipped back outside for sunset photos around Emerson Fields with Kristen Pulido Photography. These dusk images give such a romantic ending to a fairytale wedding day. Maddy’s bohemian wedding dress flowed beautifully in the fields of Emerson Fields. Don’t you love when she shows off her powder blue Converse and ruffle socks? Such a personalized wedding day!

Even the lighted L.O.V.E sign on the dock was handmade! Maddy’s brother built the marquee letters and their family has been passing them around for family weddings ever since. Sometimes family heirlooms can be fun and trendy!

We asked Maddy and Adam if they had any hesitations when they wanted to book their wedding day at Emerson Fields.

“The distance away from Kansas City was a hesitation. It was so worth it though. Having all our family and friends in the same hotel made for some fun memories outside the venue. [We loved that] it was beautiful first off, as well as the ability to have the venue a day before and after made set up and clean up a breeze for everyone involved. You guys bent over backward the weekend of the wedding!”
